Orchid Plants and its Uses



Orchid is also known with the name of Dancing ladies, dancing dolls and Butterflies orchids. It is cultivated in almost all part of India. On the basis of its growth, it has been divided into two types – monopodial and sympodial. Monopodial Orchid contains central stem that grow continuously the whole year. It does not have pseudobulbs. 

It produces new growth from the crown of the plant. The Orchid flowers are produced from the stem that is between the leaves. In other words, it is hanging from side to side of stem. Sympodial orchids have rhizome that sends out a shoot. The Shoot develops and son in a continuous cycle. The buds are often, though not always, protected by a sheath.

Orchid flowers are propagated through the seeds. It requires having accurate climatic conditions and attentions when it is in the phase of growing. Orchid plant requires cultivating at 60% humidity. It does not require much sunlight but proper ventilation is required. It requires watering it very frequently. It also requires adding fertilizers on some days interval. It flowers regularly on hot temperature.

Medicinal Uses or Orchid: 

Dried and powered tubulers of terrestrial of Orchids are used to make energizing tonic.

Other uses :

 Its roots are edible and are cooked.
